Training International Leaders

Técnico International Staff Week 2024 (ISW2024) is more than just an event: it’s an investment in your future. Network with like-minded professionals, forge lasting connections, and return home equipped with the knowledge and skills to propel your institution to new heights on the international scenario.
The ISW 2024@Técnico Lisboa is open to staff members from higher education institutions, such as international relations officers, student affairs professionals, researchers, and administrative staff. The event aims to foster international cooperation and promote professional development opportunities.
In June, Lisbon comes alive with the ‘Santos Populares’ celebrations. Immerse yourself in traditional parades and the mouthwatering aroma of sizzling sardines in every neighborhood. Vibrant colors adorn the streets, buzzing with lively music and joyful laughter. Don’t miss the magic!
Format
The International Staff Week (ISW2024) has been structured to include different formats, such as workshops and work groups for sharing best practices and brainstorming about current challenges that the process of internationalization in higher education faces. The International Day Exhibition (IDAY) is a showcase of international opportunities and Partner Universities, that will increase networking and stimulate discussion among participants.
Interested participants should register for the Staff Week as soon as possible and indicate the willingness to participate in the IDAY and have a booth (table, chair and posterboard) for their University (limited to availability).
Goals
- Create a Forum for discussion of Best Practices and the Exchange of information in key areas.
- Enhance cultural awareness: include targeted activities, such as an interactive group activity in Belém, or a sight-seeing walking tour, complemented with selected social events that will help participants learn about Lisbon’s culture and customs.
- Explore networking opportunities and become acquainted with through informal job shadowing meetings. By meeting colleagues from different institutions, participants can build new professional networks and develop relationships that can lead to future collaborations or partnerships.
- Gain insight on the processes and experience in enhancing Higher Education internationalization. Workshops and the activities proposed for this ISW can help staff members gain new skills and knowledge related to the internationalization in higher education.
- Improve institutional processes: participants can learn about different approaches to internationalization, student mobility, academic services, and use this knowledge to improve processes at their own institutions.
- Share best practices and develop new partnerships with staff members from different countries and institutions.
- Promote the home Institution in the event IDAY with particular emphasis on the academic offer, research and other collaborative opportunities.
Minimum Number of Participants
A minimum of ten (10) participants is required for the Staff Week to be carried out. Please forward this information to staff members who might be interested in joining us for this event and sharing knowledge, experience and best practices.

Accommodation and traveling
Accommodation and traveling is not provided by the organization of the ISW. Traveling and accommodation costs will be covered by the participants, although the activity is eligible for Erasmus+ funding. Please contact the Erasmus+ or International Coordinator in your institution for information about grant applications.

The final application deadline is 31st May, 2024.
Neither travel nor accommodation, or meals not mentioned in the programme is included. Each participant should find the necessary funding to cover the additional expenses.
International relations professionals working in higher education institutions can apply for Erasmus+ Staff Training Mobility grants to take part in this Técnico Lisboa Staff Week. We advise you to contact your home institution’s institutional Erasmus+ coordinator and ask if Erasmus+ funding is available for staff training.

The workshop aims to help institutions develop effective techniques for disseminating, recruiting, and retaining international students, with a goal of achieving a more diverse and thriving student community.
We'll share best practices and techniques for developing effective marketing and communication strategies for international student recruitment, discuss the challenges involved and the importance of developing tailored strategies for different markets.

The workshop consists in demonstrating and sharing techniques for planning and organizing dissemination Webinars for HEIs. Taking into account the current global context, the need to attract students to STEAM fields and possible budget constraints, there was a need to look for new alternatives to traditional dissemination methods.
All the fundamental steps for planning will be presented, as well as the open source tools available to reach the largest audience possible.

Workshop «Cooperation tools for world leading universities - Joint Programmes and Double Degree»
This workshop aims to foster collective reflection on the distinctions between Joint Programmes and Double Degree Agreements. It positions these collaborations as strategic tools for advancing and internationalising higher education institutions. Participants will gain deeper knowledge of the strategies and procedures involved in designing both typologies.
It also focuses on enhancing the attractiveness of Double Degrees Programmes. Participants will learn strategies and tools to increase student interest in these programmes and leveraging programme advantages. Importance will be placed on highlighting unique features and benefits to prospective students, with the goal of boosting enrolment numbers.

Accommodation
Lisbon is a great value destination in general, but accommodation and flights should always be booked well in advance. Lisbon is the destination of major events which will increase the hotel rates. The accommodation proposed, which is around Técnico Lisboa, and the availability is on a first-come, first-serve basis. In addition, there are many Airbnb apartments available at very reasonable prices. Overall, accommodation in Lisbon is of very good quality.
